Right now ALA conferences are dominated by activities related to "meetings" that are best conducted between conferences, at the expense of the activities that work best face-to-face. One of the reasons I'm so excited about going to my first NECC conference this year is because I'll get to meet some of the people I've met through blogging. First Life and Second Life are not mutually exclusive but can happily co-exist! For me, all the virtual encounters complement and enhance the face-to-face ones.
