New Orleans is a great city...it's just such a great mixing of cultures that around every turn there's
something new and unusual.

Mardi Gras just adds to the fun.

St. Louis Cathedral, in Jackson Square

This is the corner of Decatur St, right on Jackson Square.  I think this is Sunday morning, with a bit more mixed crowd than you'd find at night.

Cafe Du Monde

This is us on Sunday morning at the Cafe Du Monde enjoying some chicory coffee and beignets (a sort of doughnut).

Kev and Bets at the Cafe du Monde.

The French Market (duh) - a great open-air market where you can get fresh seafood, fruit, and trinkets.

Me in a mask from an artist in Mask Alley, a sort of gallery of masks.  Bets and I bought this one as our wedding gift to ourselves. :-)

Kevin taking a break in Mask Alley.

Kev and Jake, together at last.

I call this one "Guy with Bridge"
:-)

Bets on the Riverwalk, looking at some of the river boats.

Bets in front of Emeril's restaurant, on Julia St. in New Orleans.  Unfortunately for us, it was closed for Mardi Gras.
Balconies are a big deal in NOLA, especially during Mardi Gras.  People on the balconies can almost conduct the crowd below like an orchestra....using beads like a baton to bring the crowd together, and then cause a crescendo of breasts.  These shots also give you an idea of the crowds during Mardi Gras....between 4 and 5 million people flow through New Orleans during the Mardi Gras season, so many that the city determines how successful Mardi Gras was by the amount of trash generated.
